Have you ever tried a nail gun? You guys, you should.  It is a little bit addictive.

You have been warned.

They should put a surgeon general’s warning on the plastic carry case.

Then we could all ignore it and have fun putting up walls and making frames and nailing Santa’s boot to the floor.

What? Why do you look so confused?

Every Christmas Eve, my granddaddy would say that he was going to sit up all night watching for Santa so he could nail his boot to the floor and then we would have Christmas all year long.

Nervous doesn’t begin to explain how I felt about that prospect.

I mean, what would we talk about all year and how on earth would he make all of my toys with his boot nailed to the floor in Alabama?

You see the issues that could arise, right?

Anyhoo, I’ve been wanting to make a framed piece of art and it was an excuse to use my nail gun. And my miter saw. And my paint. Winning combo.

After cutting a wooden board to the size that I wanted, I cut 1×2’s to make the frame.

To measure for the frame, I cut 2 of the 1×2’s the length of the board. They will be nailed them to the top and bottom. Then I cut the other 2 1x2s the length plus the depth of the 1x2s that are attached to the top and bottom.

It sounds more confusing than it is.  Just look at the finished product and you can see two of the frame sides are shorter than the other two.

Before nailing it all together, I stained the frame boards and painted the wooden board with Kilz and chalk paint.

After that, you just paint whatever makes you happy!

These two pieces are spoken for, but I have a few more ideas that I want to whip up for our house.  I’ll be sure to share when I do. 🙂

What do you think of these? I’d love to hear your thought!
